Obama mysteriously surrounded by people who just can't get enough of Hanoi Jane
You may remember that, back in November, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, opened a speech at the UN by praising Jane Fonda.
“Hi everybody,” Power said. “You know life has changed when you’re hanging out with Jane Fonda backstage. There is no greater embodiment of being outspoken on behalf of what you believe in - and being 'all in' in every way - than Jane Fonda. And it’s a huge honor just to even briefly have shared the stage with her.”
At the time, many were shocked that a member of the administration would speak so warmly of a former communist agitator and a woman who committed treason during the Viet Nam war. Apparently, no one should have been surprised since it seems that Power's views are shared by someone with even closer ties to the President.
Speaking to the hard hitting journalists at People magazine, First Lady Michelle Obama took a moment to echo some of Samantha Power's sentiments.
"I just went to see Cicely Tyson on Broadway," Ms. Obama said. "She is in her 80s and did a two-hour play with stamina and passion. I told her 'I want to be you when I grow up!'"
She then adds:
"There's Jane Fonda, a beautiful, engaged, politically savvy, sharp woman."
Engaged, politically savvy, and sharp. Congratulations, America. That's what your First Lady has for the woman in the picture below.
