Politics: Left Wing Ghouls Salivate Over Possible Katrina 2.0

By ROBERT LAURIE – Left-wing media seems positively giddy over the possibility of another Katrina.

“There is nothing Republicans would rather the American people forget more than George W. Bush, who doesn't even have a bit-part at the GOP convention opening today in Tampa,” writes former labor secretary Robert Reich. “But W's ghost may be there, anyway.”

The column, which appeared this morning at the Huffington Post, seeks to remind everyone that New Orleans was once devastated by a hurricane – and a Republican was in charge at the time.

“Isaac is very likely to revive memories of the Bush administration's monumental incompetence in dealing with the needs of Americans caught in Hurricane Katrina.” Reich continues. “And if the public remembers the Bush administration's incompetence with Katrina, they may also recall that administration's lies about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq -- which led us into that devastating war.”

Yes, that’s right.  Robert Reich just tried to tie Hurricane Isaac to the Iraq war.

Maybe he got a memo from the DNC, because it’s a theme that’s being repeated everywhere by Obama’s faithful media lackeys.

On NBC, Chuck Todd invoked Bush during a segment with Andrea Mitchell.  Romney, he said “got a little momentum after the Ryan pick and then he's disrupted by two storms. One, a political storm in Todd Akin - which we just brought up. But now an actual storm, and you think when this storm moves closer to Louisiana, the specter, the sort of shadow of Bush and Katrina does hang over this convention.”

If the NBC brain trust is to be believed, George Bush is hovering above Tampa in flowing black robes, carrying a sickle in his right hand, waiting for Isaac to ruin the fun.

Not to be outdone, former Michigan Governor and Current TV host, Jennifer Granholm, took to Twitter this weekend and declared that God himself was punishing Republicans.

“R convention delay due to Isaac: I guess God has ways to shut that whole thing down,” she wrote.

Later, she tried to backtrack, claiming the ugly posting was just a joke, but imagine the outrage had roles been reversed.  If Sean Hannity had logged in to his Twitter account and made a similar comment, while lives were on the line?  Democrats would pounce immediately, calling him a racist who wished destruction upon the ninth ward’s African-American population.  The demands for his resignation would be thunderous.

The glee with which the left is eyeballing the Isaac storm track is truly despicable.  Even the Associated Press is in on the act, saying the hurricane’s approach “risks the juxtaposition of Republicans partying as the storm batters toward land - almost exactly seven years after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans.”

It really doesn’t matter whether this effort is being orchestrated, or if it’s just a community of like-minded individuals abandoning good taste as they hope for a GOP-injurious natural disaster.  As Rahm Emanuel famously said, “You never want a serious crisis to go to waste.”

It looks like Democrats and their media allies have learned that lesson and are eager to act upon it - even if it means ignoring the human toll in the process. As the storm approaches, these people aren't concerned with the welfare of The Big Easy.  They don't care about property damage or lives that might be disrupted or lost. They only care about protecting their president and making Republicans look disassociated, unfeeling, and out-of-touch.

If that means taking the despicable measure of using a life-threatening storm to further their agenda, so be it.
