By DAN CALABRESE - A fight about God at which party's convention?

Who would have ever thought the party's platform - a meaningless document that Dick Durbin correctly states no one reads - could lead us to this?

It's hard to say for sure what most inspired the booing. Was it the way they rammed through the suspension of the rules? Was it the sudden recognition of Jerusalem, which hasn't even been Obama Administration policy up to this point?

Or were they seriously dissing the Almighty?

It sure looks and sounds to me like Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa did a hose job on the vote. There's no way two-thirds of the delegates voted to reinstate God's name in the platform and to recognize Jerusalem. Heck, it didn't even sound like half.

But if that's the case, you've got to grapple with the fact that more than half of Democratic delegates - Villaraigosa's bogus counting notwithstanding - didn't want God in the platform. Wow.

There will be a temption on the part of the Republicans to overplay this hand. They'd be better off just letting it metastasize on its own. The media can't ignore it because it happened on such a big stage, and they won't want to because it's way too juicy.

Seemed like the show was runnin pretty smoothly until this. Oops!
